The Junkyard Rules

Known for its vibrant live music scenes, art installations, and community events, The Junkyard prides itself on creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all patrons. Whether you’re attending a concert, workshop, or private event, familiarity with these guidelines helps maintain the venue’s unique atmosphere while prioritizing safety and respect.

Accessibility

The Junkyard is committed to providing an accessible experience for all guests, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The venue features wheelchair-accessible entrances at the main Mulberry Place door, with ramps leading to the performance area and restrooms. Designated ADA seating is available near the stage, and it is recommended to contact the venue at least 48 hours in advance to reserve spots or request accommodations such as ASL interpreters for select events. Elevators are not present in their single-level layout, but all pathways are wide and obstacle-free.

Animals & Service Dogs

Pets are generally not permitted inside The Junkyard to maintain a hygienic and safe environment for all attendees. However, they fully support service animals as defined by the ADA. Trained service dogs (and in some cases, miniature horses) that perform specific tasks for individuals with disabilities are welcome. These animals must remain under control, leashed or harnessed, and housebroken. Emotional support animals, therapy animals, or pets do not qualify under this policy and will not be admitted.

Water stations for service animals are available, and relief areas are designated outside the venue. If an animal behaves aggressively or is not under control, it may be asked to leave. This policy aligns with Colorado state laws, ensuring accessibility without compromising venue operations.

Age Requirements

Age restrictions at The Junkyard vary by event to comply with local liquor laws and ensure appropriate audiences. Most concerts and evening events are 18+ or 21+, particularly those serving alcohol, with valid government-issued ID required for entry – no exceptions. Daytime or all-ages events, such as art workshops or family-friendly shows, welcome minors accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. For 18+ events, those under 18 are not admitted, even with supervision. They use color-coded wristbands to denote age groups: green for 21+ (alcohol-eligible), yellow for 18-20, and red for under 18 where permitted. Fake IDs will result in immediate ejection and possible legal action under Denver ordinances.

Bag Policy

To enhance security and streamline entry, The Junkyard enforces a clear bag policy. Bags must be transparent and no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″ (similar to NFL standards). Small clutch purses (up to 4.5″ x 6.5″) are allowed without transparency requirements. All bags are subject to search upon entry, and non-compliant items must be returned to vehicles or discarded. This policy reduces wait times and minimizes risks, especially during crowded events. Medical bags or diaper bags are exempt but will be inspected. They provide a coat check for larger items at a nominal fee.

Pro tip: Opt for cross-body clear bags for convenience. This measure, inspired by best practices in Denver’s event spaces, ensures safety without sacrificing patron comfort.

Entry and Security

Entry to The Junkyard begins 30-60 minutes before event start times, depending on the show. They use metal detectors and pat-downs for all guests to maintain a secure environment. Tickets must be presented digitally or physically, with no re-entry allowed unless specified (e.g., for medical reasons). Security personnel are trained in de-escalation and crowd management, adhering to Denver Police Department guidelines. Prohibited behaviors include harassment, intoxication leading to disruption, or any form of violence – such actions result in immediate removal and potential bans. They employ bag checks, wanding, and CCTV for monitoring. For high-profile events, additional measures like K9 units may be present. Arrive early to avoid lines, and cooperate with staff for a smooth experience. Their zero-tolerance stance on threats ensures The Junkyard remains a welcoming space.

Food, Drink & Alcohol

The Junkyard offers a variety of food and beverage options through on-site vendors, focusing on local, sustainable choices like craft beers from Denver breweries and vegan street food. Outside food and drinks are prohibited, except for medical necessities (e.g., baby formula or allergy-specific items – notify staff). Alcohol service follows Colorado’s strict laws: no sales to minors. Last call is typically 30 minutes before closing. Non-alcoholic options are plentiful, including mocktails and sodas. Water stations are free to promote hydration. Their bar uses eco-friendly cups and encourages recycling. Overconsumption can lead to ejection, so drink responsibly – ride-sharing discounts are available for safe exits.

Payment Options

A wide range of payment methods are accepted to accommodate all guests. Cash is welcome, but contactless options like credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay is preferred for faster transactions. ATMs are available on-site with a small surcharge. For merchandise or concessions, checks or cryptocurrency are not accepted at this time. Refunds are event-specific – generally non-refundable except for cancellations.

Photography and Recording

Personal photography is allowed for non-flash devices during most events, but professional equipment (DSLRs, tripods) requires prior approval. Recording audio or video is prohibited without artist consent, as it may violate copyrights. Live streaming or commercial use is strictly forbidden. Flash photography can disrupt performers, so it’s banned.

Prohibited Items

To ensure safety, The Junkyard bans weapons (firearms, knives, etc.), drugs (including marijuana inside, per venue policy despite Colorado laws), explosives, lasers, outside alcohol, large signs, and professional recording gear. Other no-gos include drones, aerosols, and anything deemed hazardous by staff. Vapes and e-cigarettes fall under smoking rules. Confiscated items are not returned. This list promotes a secure, enjoyable space.

Smoking Policy

Smoking, including vaping and e-cigarettes, is prohibited indoors per Colorado’s Clean Indoor Air Act. Designated outdoor smoking areas are available, at least 25 feet from entrances. Marijuana use is not allowed on premises, even medicinally, to maintain air quality. Violators face ejection. Additional policies include no re-entry without stamps and eco-friendly waste disposal.
